Can you believe it’s November? I cannot believe how fast this school year is going! We are cruising along here in our Kindergarten classroom. We are almost finished with our letter study- we only have 3 letters left- I am hoping to finish on Friday. We have finished Chapter 1 and Chapter 2 of our Math—and have taken both tests- I hope you received a copy of them at home!
We started learning about pumpkins—my they are fun! We will be continuing on with our pumpkin study and then we will study a little bit about Native Americans. If you have anything you would like to share with us about Native American heritage, please let us know- it would be so fun to have someone new come in. We will start learning about centers in our class- but this will take us a while to learn- so we may not actually start centers until December!
Just a reminder about POWER HOUR- this starts right at 9:00 every morning, so it is vital your children are on time for class! I love this part of our day! It’s really a half an hour, but it is the most important half hour of our day! Right now our small groups in Power Hour are doing 10 minutes of alphabet recognition, 10 minutes of handwriting, and 10 minutes of phonemic awareness—which is hearing the sounds in words. Some Power Hour Groups have started small group reading-which is very exciting!
We have also been working hard at learning our first LEADER IN ME skill-which is Begin With The End In Mind. This means that we have a plan- we are aiming for a goal!
When you do your homework PLEASE WRITE WITH A PENCIL! Practice not only makes perfect, but it makes permanent! (Unless of course your homework calls for coloring J.)
Please remember to turn in your blue Read Aloud chart for October as a new one for November is included in tonight’s homework!
